terms

garage is a noticeboard. we are not the seller. we connect local buyers and sellers, and the sale is between the two of you: the item, the price, the handover. using the site means you’re okay with the few rules below.

the deal

• you must be able to enter a contract (in practice: 18+, or have a parent who knows what you’re up to).
• one account, your real details, your own photos of the actual item.
• garage is free to use right now. if that ever changes, you’ll hear it from us first, plainly.

what you can’t list

anything illegal to sell or own in australia. weapons, stolen goods, counterfeits, recalled products, prescription medicines, and the rest of the obvious list. animals must be rehomed responsibly and lawfully for your state. we remove listings that break this, and repeat offenders lose the account. the full list lives at what’s not allowed.

be a decent human

• describe items honestly, flaws included. the reviews system remembers.
• chat is for buying and selling, not harassment, spam, or scams.
• meet somewhere public and sensible. trust your gut; we’d rather you lose a sale than a wallet.

what we’re responsible for

we run the platform with care, but we don’t inspect items, hold payments, or guarantee a buyer or seller will show up. to the extent the law allows, we’re not liable for what happens in a sale between users. nothing here excludes rights you have under the australian consumer law that can’t be excluded.

paying through garage

Some sales are paid through Garage. When you use the Pay button in a chat, the payment is processed by PayPal: the money goes straight from the buyer to the seller, and Garage never holds it.

Paying that way means PayPal Buyer Protection and Seller Protection apply, under PayPal’s terms. Refunds, chargebacks and disputes are handled by PayPal through their resolution process. we can point you to it, but we are not a party to the payment itself.

Only ever pay through the Pay button in Garage. Payments arranged off the platform are not protected, and we cannot step in if something goes wrong.

Garage is free to use, including payments, right now. A small per-order fee may apply in future; if it ever does, you will see it before you pay and we will say so plainly.

your content

your listings, photos and words stay yours. you give us the licence we need to display them on garage, nothing wider, and it ends when you delete them (or your account, which you can do any time).

housekeeping

these terms are an agreement between you and Garage Marketplace Pty Ltd (ABN 69 700 370 172 · ACN 700 370 172), the Australian company that runs garage.

we can remove content or suspend accounts that break these terms, and we’ll be straight with you about why. these terms are governed by the laws of victoria, australia. questions: hello@getgarage.com.au.
